On 7 July 2026, the Sentinel-2 satellite looked down on the high Andes near Palccoyo, Cusco — home to Peru's "Mountain of Seven Colours" — and found a vivid turquoise alpine lake set into banded brown and tan terrain, patches of snow still clinging to the ridgelines above. The colour-striped geology this region is famous for shows here as long folded bands of mineral sediment wrapping the lakeshore.
