The European Space Agency's Sentinel-2 satellite passed over southern Saskatchewan and caught Buffalo Pound Lake doing the thing it does every late summer: turning a startling emerald green. This narrow reservoir in the glacier-carved Qu'Appelle Valley supplies drinking water to Moose Jaw and Regina — each August, warm shallow water sets its algae blooming until the whole lake reads like a brushstroke of green ink across the harvest-brown prairie.
