On 1 November 2023, Sentinel-2 looked down on Grand Cayman, the largest of the Cayman Islands, ringed by turquoise reef with the shallow North Sound cutting into its western half. In 1503 Columbus named the islands Las Tortugas, after the turtles in the surrounding water. Green turtles still nest here, most of them on the west coast (64% of the island's green turtle nests), and loggerheads mostly on the south coast (58% of loggerhead nests). Loggerhead nesting runs from about May to September and green turtle nesting from about June to December. No. 5 in the series Where the Turtles Meet.
